The route connects with Machame at Barranco Camp, traverses the famous Barranco Wall, and reaches Barafu Camp before the final summit push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Follow your challenging 6 Days Umbwe Route journey to the Roof of Africa.
Day 0: Arrival – Kilimanjaro International Airport to Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), our driver will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Relax after your journey, meet your mountain guide for a detailed climbing briefing, equipment inspection, and prepare for your Kilimanjaro adventure.

Day 1: Moshi – Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Camp
- Altitude: 1,600m – 2,940m

Drive from Moshi to Umbwe Gate for registration. Begin your trek through the dense rainforest on a steep and challenging trail. The path follows a narrow ridge between two rivers, offering stunning views of the forest canopy. Arrive at Umbwe Camp for your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Umbwe Camp – Barranco Camp
- Altitude: 2,940m – 3,960m
- Distance: 6 km
- Hiking Time: 4–5 Hours
- Habitat: Heath & Moorland

Leave the rainforest and enter the heath and moorland zone. The trail continues steeply upward with magnificent views of the southern glaciers of Kibo. Connect with the Machame Route and descend slightly to Barranco Camp, famous for its spectacular location beneath the Barranco Wall.
Day 3: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
- Altitude: 3,960m – 4,200m
- Distance: 5 km
- Hiking Time: 4–5 Hours
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
- Accommodation: Karanga Camp
Tackle the famous Barranco Wall, a fun scramble that offers spectacular views of the surrounding valleys. Continue through ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp, with excellent views of the icefalls on the southern slopes of Kibo. This is a crucial acclimatization day.
Day 4: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
- Altitude: 4,200m – 4,640m
- Distance: 4 km
- Hiking Time: 3–4 Hours
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
- Accommodation: Barafu Camp
A short but steep trek to Barafu Camp, the base for your summit attempt. Arrive early to rest, rehydrate, and have an early dinner. Your guide will brief you on the midnight summit push while you prepare for the ultimate challenge.
Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
- Altitude: 4,640m – 5,895m – 3,100m
- Distance: 17 km
- Hiking Time: 11–14 Hours
- Habitat: Arctic → Rain Forest
- Accommodation: Mweka Camp
Around midnight, begin your summit attempt. Trek under starlight to Stella Point (5,756m) before continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895m. Witness an unforgettable sunrise over the African continent.
After celebrating your achievement and taking photos, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for dinner and your final night on the mountain.
Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your official Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate, meet your driver, and transfer back to Moshi. Enjoy a hot shower and celebrate your incredible achievement with your team.
Day 7: Departure – Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport
