The route approaches from the south-eastern side and passes through rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert, and the arctic summit zone. The 5-day itinerary provides a steady ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.

Day 0: Arrival – Kilimanjaro International Airport to Moshi

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), our driver will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Relax after your journey, meet your mountain guide for a detailed climbing briefing, equipment inspection, and prepare for your Kilimanjaro adventure.

Day 1: Moshi – Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

  • Altitude: 1,870m – 2,720m
  • Distance: 8 km

Drive from Moshi to Marangu Gate for registration. Begin your trek through the lush rainforest, spotting colobus monkeys and various bird species. Arrive at Mandara Hut, a group of comfortable A-frame huts nestled in the forest.

Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut

  • Altitude: 2,720m – 3,720m
  • Distance: 12 km
  • Hiking Time: 6–8 Hours
  • Habitat: Heath & Moorland
  • Accommodation: Horombo Hut

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the heath and moorland zone. The trail offers magnificent views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Arrive at Horombo Hut, a large complex with stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 3: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

  • Altitude: 3,720m – 4,720m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Hiking Time: 5–6 Hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
  • Accommodation: Kibo Hut

Continue through the alpine desert zone with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The terrain becomes stark and lunar-like as you approach Kibo Hut. Arrive early, rest, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 4: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

  • Altitude: 4,720m – 5,895m – 3,720m
  • Distance: 18 km
  • Hiking Time: 11–14 Hours
  • Habitat: Arctic → Moorland
  • Accommodation: Horombo Hut

Around midnight, begin your summit attempt. Trek under starlight to Gilman’s Point (5,681m), then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Witness an unforgettable sunrise over the African continent.

After celebrating your achievement and taking photos, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi

  • Distance: 20 km
  • Hiking Time: 5–6 Hours
  • Habitat: Moorland → Rain Forest

Descend through the heath and moorland zone, entering the rainforest and eventually reaching Marangu Gate. Receive your official Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate, meet your driver, and transfer back to Moshi. Enjoy a hot shower and celebrate your incredible achievement.

Day 6: Departure – Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport
